Start with a file

CSV, TSV, or TXT · UTF-8 only · up to 10 MB. Original text and identifiers are retained; parsing happens when you run. Drop here, or use the file picker.

What to know about this tool

Uses case-insensitive substring matching, not numeric rules or exact equality. An empty search keeps every data row. Up to 10 MB, 50,000 rows and 200 columns; rectangular CSV with unique nonblank headers required. CSV output has a conservative 20 MB cap.

Instructions and examples

From input to output

  1. Choose or paste a CSV.
  2. Enter the exact Column header and the substring in Contains.
  3. Select Filter rows, inspect the retained records and download the CSV.

Settings and result behavior

  • Contains uses case-insensitive substring matching. It is not an exact-match, numeric comparison or regular-expression filter.
  • The header name is case-sensitive, while the searched cell text is lowercased for matching.

A worked example

Input
id,name
001,Ada
002,Lin
003,Adaline
Settings
Column: name. Contains: ada.
Expected result
Rows 001 and 003 are retained, with the header.

Supported input and limits

Choose a UTF-8 CSV, TSV or TXT file, or open “Paste CSV instead”. Use comma, semicolon, tab or pipe separators. A header row with unique nonblank names and the same field count on every row is required. CSV output preserves source row order and protects formula-like cells.

If the result is unexpected

  • If extra rows appear, remember that Ada also matches Adaline. Use a more specific substring or another workflow for exact equality.
  • If no row matches, the output still contains the header. Check the column and query before assuming the data is missing.

Check before using the result

Check the retained and excluded records against your intended rule. This tool selects rows; it does not delete records from the source file.
