Instructions and examples

From input to output

  1. Add the script by typing, pasting or loading TXT.
  2. Select Estimate time.
  3. Read the word count and separate reading/speaking estimates.

Settings and result behavior

  • Words split on whitespace. Times round up to whole minutes, with a one-minute minimum.
  • Rates are fixed here; Word counter uses a different reading rate and reports seconds.

A worked example

Input
A 260-word public presentation script.
Settings
Fixed rates: 225 words/minute reading; 130 speaking.
Expected result
Reading: 2 min. Speaking: 2 min. Words: 260.

Supported input and limits

Type or paste text, or use the TXT import control for a UTF-8 text file. PDF and Word documents cannot be imported into this text workspace. Copy/download saves the estimate report as text.

Uses fixed speeds of 225 words per minute for reading and 130 for speaking, rounded up to at least one minute. Up to 1 MB and 20,000 lines per input.

If the result is unexpected

  • Very short scripts still show one minute because of rounding.
  • For a talk with pauses, demonstrations or unfamiliar terms, time a rehearsal and allow additional time.

Check before using the result

Use the estimate for planning, then test your actual delivery. It does not measure comprehension or speaking speed.
