What to know about this tool

Available encoders depend on the browser. JPEG loses transparency; canvas output does not preserve animation or source metadata. Up to 25 MB per file and 16 megapixels input/output.

Animated files are processed as a still image. Re-encoding may change color profiles and metadata.

Instructions and examples

From input to output

  1. Choose a browser-readable image.
  2. Select PNG, JPEG or WebP output, quality and the JPEG background where relevant.
  3. Select Convert image, inspect the result and download the reported format.

Settings and result behavior

  • Quality affects lossy JPEG/WebP output; PNG encoding does not use the quality percentage.
  • JPEG background matters only for JPEG. Changing format alone does not change dimensions.

A worked example

Input
A transparent 800 × 600 PNG icon sheet.
Settings
JPEG output; Quality percent 90; JPEG background white.
Expected result
An 800 × 600 JPEG with transparency flattened onto white.

Supported input and limits

Choose PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF or BMP that your browser can decode. Animated sources are processed as a still image. Re-encoding can change metadata and color rendering. Output choices are PNG, JPEG and WebP; result details identify what the browser actually encoded.

Available encoders depend on the browser. JPEG loses transparency; canvas output does not preserve animation or source metadata. Up to 25 MB per file and 16 megapixels input/output.

If the result is unexpected

  • If the browser cannot encode your requested format, try PNG and inspect the actual MIME type shown.
  • Use PNG/WebP if you need transparency. Converting JPEG to PNG cannot restore detail already lost.

Check before using the result

Check transparent edges, colors, dimensions and file size. The export is a newly encoded copy, with original metadata discarded.
