What to know about this tool

The image is centered without resizing. Padding increases dimensions and the output is PNG. Up to 25 MB per file and 16 megapixels input/output.

Animated files are processed as a still image. Re-encoding may change color profiles and metadata.

Instructions and examples

From input to output

  1. Choose an image.
  2. Select Aspect ratio and Padding color, then select Add canvas padding.
  3. Inspect the centered image and surrounding canvas before downloading the PNG.

Settings and result behavior

  • The canvas expands to the chosen ratio without cropping or resizing the source pixels.
  • Padding color fills the added canvas and shows through transparent source areas.

A worked example

Input
A 1200 × 800 product photograph.
Settings
Aspect ratio: 1:1 square; white padding.
Expected result
A 1200 × 1200 PNG with 200 pixels of padding above and below.

Supported input and limits

Choose PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF or BMP that your browser can decode. Animated sources are processed as a still image. Re-encoding can change metadata and color rendering. Output is PNG.

The image is centered without resizing. Padding increases dimensions and the output is PNG. Up to 25 MB per file and 16 megapixels input/output.

If the result is unexpected

  • For a smaller finished file, resize after adding padding.
  • Very tall or wide sources can need a large canvas; choose a closer ratio if the output pixel limit is exceeded.

Check before using the result

Check the canvas ratio, background and centering. Padding preserves the whole subject but changes the outside dimensions.
